IALT: identify how the local people tried to save beached up whales that got themselves stuck in the spit!
Today for Day #4 - Activity 1, I had to read something that I was not familiar with which was called The Farewell Spit! If you don't know The Farewell Spit is when a number of whales accidentally swam into the spit and became stuck on the beach. They were unable to swim back to the ocean because the water was too shallow. Many local people tried to save the ‘beached’ whales!
It is quite sad that these incredible whales die by getting stuck in the spit because you never know that these AMAZING whales have been through A LOT and probably just needed to look for food for their children! It is really upsetting but also I am grateful for those locals who try their best to drag these wonderful whales back to sea!

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your ideas with us on your blog today. I must admit that I didn't know much about the situation in Farewell Spit, either, but I felt that it was an important issue that we should all read about. I really admire the effort that the local people made to try and save the whales. Sadly, there were just too many of them and they were too far up the beach to be saved. Hopefully another tragedy like this does not occur again.
