👨🏽‍🎨 Duffy Assembly 👨🏽‍🎨

IALT: Reflect about the Duffy Assembly!

Guten Morgen and greetings to you all...
WELCOME BACK TO MY BLOG!

Today, we just had assembly! Our special guest/role model was Michel Mulipola. He is a polynesian comic artist who absolutely LOVE drawing ever since he was young, his favourite character when he was young was X-Men. He is also a professional wrestler who has met WWE stars - Rey Mysterio, Aj Styles, Ric Flair and the legendary King Haku who was the ONLY Tongan WWE wrestler!

I was lucky because I got to greet him, and the Remuera Rotary Club who are the people that sponsor Duffy books for us. So we walked to the hall, and the assembly started. We introduced Michel Mulipola to the whole school, and he started talking about what he does, where he works, and what places he's traveled to.

He also told us about his books that he has Illustrated like for example, the school journals at this school. He has also Illustrated comics for Samoa Joe vs Roman Reigns (From WWE) which Samoa Joe has wrote, and did the same for John Cena.

The comic book that he is currently working is called 'Headlock'. I've only seen images about it and it does look quite scary and interesting so I wish I would like to read it :(

What made me enjoy this was when he was talking about his wrestling career, because I like to watch wrestling a lot actually, but sadly he wasn't able to pursue it because he just does it for fun so he could relieve all his stress, and take it out on the person he's wrestling.

Here's a photo of him in his wrestling mask:

He also wrote the books 'Samoan Heroes', 'Cook Island Heroes', and my favourite - 'Tongan Heroes' which my brother in law Charlie bought that I currently have at home sitting on my drawer. I read it, and it involves Valerie Adams, Queen Salote, King Haku, and Paea Wolfgramm. I still read that book, because it interests me a lot.

Michel has many passions which makes me be inspired by him a lot, and maybe one day - I could pursue a career of being a wrestler instead of just doing it for fun even though I want to be a flight attendant or a singer.

Question: Have you ever met Michel Mulipola? Because I have.
But if you haven't, what's one question you'd ask him?

WELCOME BACK TO MY BLOG!

Today in the middle block, we had Kapa Haka! As you can tell from my last blog post, it is Maori Language Week meaning that this Friday when it's assembly, we will be performing. Last year, we never performed like as in the Kapa Haka so I think most of them are pretty stoked!

We have learnt a LOT of items during the past months from our tutors Andre & Chanel. We use have another tutor who is Marama but she never comes anymore. Anyways, our leaders that will be leading it is Dereon, Constance, Mariah, and some other students.

My favourite item is 'Tena I Poua' which is our Whakaeke, and our song is 'Tini Whetu'. The other items we will be doing is 'E Honore', 'Tutira Mai Ra', 'Tena Kokirikiri Mai' and more!

🇳🇿 Maori Language Week 🇳🇿

IALT: Inform you all about Maori Language Week!

Kia Ora and greetings to you all...
WELCOME BACK TO MY BLOG!

If you didn't know, it's Maori Language Week! I know right, I never knew Maori Language Week is after Tongan Language Week but oh well, now I know. Anyways, we have been learning a LOT about Te Reo Maori and also will be having a SPECIAL assembly on Friday like we always do for every Cultural Language Week.

What I know about the Maori Culture is that the Maori are the indigenous inhabitants of New Zealand. The Maori are also Polynesian people, who most closely is related to eastern Polynesians. In order to greet each other, they also hongi but it's only if it's men doing it to each other, but if it's men and women doing it then it's just a kiss to the cheek!

Once again, Happy Maori Language Week!

💨 The Returning Wind 💨

IALT: Showcase my Poem!

Kia Ora and greetings to you all...
WELCOME BACK TO MY BLOG!

Last week, KIA MANAWANUI all did a poem about a natural disaster using the S.E.E.E structure. I think that the structure really helped me do this poem, because usually without it - I get stuck a lot so I will definitely use this structure when I do a new poem!

The natural disaster that I based my Poem on was a Cyclone! I worked very hard to complete this poem and I am really really happy on how it turned out, because I got to showcase it to the WHOLE school last week on Friday at the TPS assembly!

Here is my poem:

What I found challenging was coming up with words that are very detailed to put it in my poem! What I also found challenging was that I had to use a LOT of figurative language like Metaphors, Onomatopoeia , Similes, Adjectives, Hyperboles etc...

🇳🇿 My Pepeha 🇳🇿

IALT: Showcase my Pepeha!

Kia Ora and greetings to you all...
WELCOME BACK TO MY BLOG!

Since it's Maori Language Week as you all should know, we kick started the week by doing a Pepeha.  A Pepeha is when you write about yourself, where you come from, etc... but what's cool is that it's in Maori! I have did a Pepeha before and this was last year. Now that I use a Pepeha, I am kind of getting into the habit of knowing how to say "My name is..." or "How are you?" in Maori.

KIA MANAWANUI all did this task too and to showcase it, we used Screencastify.  Screencastify is what we use to orally present our completed works, instead of using presentations which a lot of people use these days.

Here is my Pepeha:

Here is my Screencastify:

I had a LOT of fun doing this even though it was kind of difficult getting to understand some of the Maori words but all was good in the end. I was pretty proud of my Screencastify too which made me feel good about myself. What was challenging was that I had to keep doing my Screencastify over and over again...because I kept mucking up the words but like I said^ , all was good in the end :)

👩🏽‍🍳 Technology - Cooking 👩🏽‍🍳

IALT: Reflect about Technology!

Kia Ora and greetings to you all...

Last week on Thursday, KIA MANAWANUI went to Technology at Tamaki College! This time, we rotated to different classes and sadly, this was our last rotation for this year :( But what I'm happy for is that I am in Cooking which is one of my favourite classes when I come Technology!

For the first day at Cooking for this year, we made Hot Cakes! Of course I was excited but first we went over the safety throughout the class enviroment. After we went over that, we got into Cooking!

Ingredients:
  • S.R Flour (Self Rising)
  • Sugar
  • 1 Egg
  • Milk
  • Butter
First, we mix in the wet ingredients ALL together in one bowl, then mix the dry ingredients in a seperate bowl.

Second, we combine all the ingredients together in one big bowl.

Third, we butter the pan and then start pouring in the hot cake batter!

Then the result will look like this:

I worked with Cerenity to cook this and the result was DELICIOUS! We weren't really good when you have to flip the pancake but we still enjoyed it in the end. I couldn't resist not eating it until we put it on the plate so I just ate one pancake as we were cooking more on the pan!
